Month Date, 2006: The Otago District Health Board says patient and clinical regards are safe despite an investigation in to suspected fraud involving IT spending

The incident, currently under investigation by the Serious Fraud Office, has resulted in the suspension of a board employee and said to possibly involve millions of dollars.

DHB Chairman, Richard Thompson has not disclosed the suspected sum involved but expressed concern of significant financial losses over a number of years.

The hospital’s board became aware of the incident last month after its own internal investigation in to transactions from a particular IT vendor.

The issue became public through a written statement from board chief executive Brian Rousseau that declared the need for a “comprehensive investigation” in to the matter.
