The incident, currently under investigation by the Serious Fraud Office, has resulted in the suspension of a board employee and said to possibly involve millions of dollars.

DHB Chairman, Richard Thompson has not disclosed the suspected sum involved but expressed concern of significant financial losses over a number of years.

The hospital’s board became aware of the incident last month after its own internal investigation in to transactions from a particular IT vendor.

The issue became public through a written statement from board chief executive Brian Rousseau that declared the need for a “comprehensive investigation” in to the matter.
