HP Moves Forward With New Ethics and Compliance Officer
October 16, 2006: Following its recent boardroom leak scandal, HP has appointed a new ethics and compliance chief.
Jon Hoak, reporting to chief executive, Mark Hurd, will be responsible for HP’s adherence to its Standards of Business Conduct.
HP’s former ethics officer, Kevin Hunsaker, is currently facing criminal charges following investigations in to the spying incident.
Hoaks’s title of vice president and chief ethics and compliance officer represents a step up in the role of ethics in overall company strategy. Kevin Hunsaker has previously held the role of director of ethics, a lower ranking position that effectively placed less importance and significance on the role of ethics in the company.
In a statement earlier this week, Mark Hurd outlined his expectations of the new employee. “HP has traditionally led the industry in adherence to standards of ethics, privacy and corporate responsibility and with Jon’s guidance we will lead again.”
Hoak’s role will include assisting HP hired attorneys in assessing the company’s investigative practices.
