Black Duck Becomes Compliance Swan

September 6th, 2006: Black Duck Software has announced that it has signed an exclusive deal with Open Channel Solutions (OCS) to distribute its open source compliance management software suite.

Black Duck developed protexIP, a software suite that, according to OCS’ managing director Con Fiamegos, “helps organisations manage software licensing issues by validating software contents, verifying license compliance, and finding and addressing issues early in the development or due diligence process.”

OCS says that the addition of protexIP will enable it and its resellers to help customers efficiently identify, govern and manage multifaceted license obligations and resolve issues that may arise. The deal covers Australia and New Zealand where the company says it plans to target enterprises, government, law firms and software developers.

“Black Duck offers the only true software compliance management solution - one that allows developers, executives, lawyers and other team members to work together to bring to market software that is in full compliance with hundreds of complicated licenses,” says Doug Levin, founder and CEO of Black Duck Software. “Through OCS, we are extending our rapidly growing worldwide footprint to the Australia and New Zealand markets through a partner that customers in those countries know and trust.”
