Dell And EMC Stay Storage Buddies

September 14th, 2006: Dell and EMC have announced that they are extending their network storage development partnership for a further five years.

The pair have been collaborating on and selling co-branded network storage systems for five years now, in what has probably been, according to EMC chief executive Joseph Tucci, “the most successful partnership of its kind in the history of the IT industry.”

Since the partnership began in 2001, more than 34,000 systems have been shipped to over 10,000 customers. Dell re-badges EMC gear to give it clout in the enterprise space, while EMC gains even greater reach into a market it already dominates.

"From the outset, Dell and EMC implemented a unique model of sales, marketing, engineering and manufacturing collaboration to leverage each other's strengths to deliver compelling value to customers," said Dell in a statement.

The announcement of Dell and EMC’s continued alliance comes just as rivals HP and Sun Microsystems have both shown increases in their share of the data storage market.
