Survey Says: Symantec Premier Security Vendor

September 19th, 2006: In more survey news, Symantec has come out on top in a recent IDC Asia Pacific survey of end users, scoring a trifecta of praise for innovation, licensing and support.

The survey attracted responses from 278 ITC buyers and users, 19.4 percent of which named Symantec as the security software vendor with the most innovative technology. IDC found that Symantec trumped the competition for most innovative technology, best software licensing and maintenance support, and as the security vendor respondents would most like to do business with.

"For vendors to do well in the security software market, market perception and mindshare are of critical importance," says Willie Low, senior market analyst for IDC Asia/Pacific's Infrastructure Software. "The security market is a fast-moving one, and vendors need to continuously keep their portfolios updated with strong and innovative technology."

IDC’s report on the survey findings suggests that vendors need to offer various flexible pricing and licensing options to suit a variety of customer needs. It says that as the security software market in the region is relatively young, users may need more support, so it is critical for vendors and their channel partners to provide a strong network of helpdesk and maintenance support.

The analysts at IDC say that the security software market in Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) is experiencing vibrant growth and is expected to reach US$1.7 billion in 2010.
