A Healthy Result: Oracle Digs Deeper for Content and Records Management

Oracle says Oracle Content Database will enable a wide range of unstructured content to be captured and stored centrally. The second addition, Orace Records Database, manages classification, retention and disposition of any content declared a record in line with corporate policies

The two products were previously announced in June as part of what Oracle labels its ‘next-generation content management strategy.’ Oracle says unstructured content is typically the source of up to 80% of business information and the two additions can provide an enterprise-wide solution to the problem.

Again, like many other content and records management releases recently, the push is towards the products ability to support and assist with regulatory compliance.

“Regulatory compliance, information discovery and information security are driving customers to store their documents in highly reliable, scalable and secure infrastructure provided by a database,” says Andy Mendelsohn, senior vice president of Database Service Technologies, Oracle.

Earlier this week, Oracle announced its results for Q1 2007 (ended August 31) with figures exceeding market expectations. Total GAAP revenues were up 30% to $US3.6 billion while Q1 earnings per share were up 28% compared with same quarter last year. Analysts have attributed this profit to Oracle’s acquisition strategy over recent years.
