Vista Attracting More Anti-Competition Complaints

September 25th, 2006: Microsoft may be copping a lot of flak in the EU over Vista’s security features, however, it is also the subject of complaints lodged by Adobe over embedded PDF features.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Adobe told the European Commission that Microsoft should be barred from including competing software for reading and creating PDF documents in its upcoming Vista operating system.

Adobe has already complained that Microsoft’s planned inclusion of PDF functionality in Office 2007 PDF would hurt its software sales, causing the software giant to drop its plans in favour of a free downloadable add-on to Office.

Along with Adobe’s complaint, Microsoft is attracting increasing amounts of criticism from security vendors such as Symantec for its LiveOne security centre. Due to this, Vista’s upcoming November release is showing signs of turning into an antitrust battle similar to that of Windows XP’s launch, and could possibly delay the operating system’s release in the EU.
