August 16th, 2006: EMC extends Documentum to contend with identity and rights management issues outside the enterprise firewall.
EMC has released Documentum Information Rights Management (IRM) Services and EMC Documentum Records Manager 5.3 - two content management software offerings that are now unified with the EMC Documentum enterprise content management (ECM) platform.
"Most records management solutions today only address records stored within corporate repositories, leaving any copies of those records stored on individual employee computers or anywhere else outside the corporate firewall exposed to potential security and legal threats," said Dave DeWalt, President, EMC Software Group. "By delivering Documentum IRM Services and Documentum Records Manager 5.3 under the industry-leading Documentum platform, EMC is the first to offer a solution that not only actively controls, secures and tracks information, but also disposes of all copies regardless of where they reside."

EMC today also announced EMC Documentum IRM Services for eRoom. Based on the same technology as Documentum IRM Services, Documentum IRM Services for eRoom provides added protection and control over information being shared with partners or customers via the award-winning EMC Documentum eRoom 7.3 web-based collaborative environment.
