OnStor's Display Of Power

August 29th, 2006:Nothing vulgar about OnStor's latest NAS offering.

ONStor today announced a new enterprise data storage solution that breaks the price/performance barrier created by competitive offerings. Delivering the performance, scalability and flexibility previously found only in the highest-cost solutions, ONStor's new Pantera Clustered NAS system undercuts the price of midrange solutions from NetApp by 50%.

Built on a NAS platform already proven in hundreds of enterprise customer installations, Pantera Clustered NAS systems provide an appliance solution for Enterprise NAS applications such as large-scale server consolidation. By integrating features such as server virtualisation and n-way clustering, ONStor Pantera enables customers to start with a complete configuration priced below US$40,000, and then independently grow both performance and capacity simply by adding either filer nodes or disk. Expansion is simple, fast, and completely non-disruptive. Pantera provides the capability to consolidate data from thousands of servers, and tens of thousands of users to a single storage environment.

Pantera Clustered NAS incorporates the ONStor EverON software platform which is already field-proven in ONStor's highly successful Bobcat NAS Gateway.

In addition to enabling end users to conduct server and storage consolidation, Pantera provides a tiered storage solution with a single management interface. Pantera is available with both high-performance 15K SAS and low-cost SATA drives allowing users to select the appropriate class of disk to meet application requirements.

"Customers have told us that today's enterprise NAS systems are too expensive and too hard to scale. They want new options that will allow them to start with an affordable entry configuration and grow effortlessly as their needs expand," said Bob Miller, president and CEO of ONStor. "ONStor now meets these needs with Pantera Clustered NAS. Built on a proven platform, Pantera provides customers with a high-availability solution that not only out-scales our competition, but for a fraction of the price."

Pantera is available immediately through ONStor and its partners. Entry level pricing starts under $40,000 for a complete appliance-based NAS solution that includes 6TB of storage. Clustered solutions with 12TB of storage and enhanced high-availability features are available for less than $100,000.
