Open Source Content Management Advice

July 3rd, 2006: US-based Rivet Logic outlines how organisations can gain the most from Open Source content. The free White paper, which focuses on Technologies such as ECM platforms, aims to provide better understanding.

The paper, entitled Seven Keys to Radically Improve Document Management and Team Collaboration with Open Source Solutions, aims to describe ways in which the public and private sector can increase productivity with Open Source portals.

“A new breed of technologies, including Open Source ECM platforms and portals, provide a better approach to management,” claims Rivet Logic. The company has released the paper in the hope that it will encourage business to take up the new technology which it specialises in. The paper examines the key capabilities that users should identify in the technology to gain the full benefits available.

According to Rivet Logic, companies that still rely on email and shared network drives for sharing among team members are failing with this approach. “Email messages proliferate at alarming rates, and important messages get lost, important knowledge ends up scattered across a variety of email folders, document edits may be lost, and document version history is not maintained, search and retrieval of important information may be difficult or downright impossible.”
