IBM Launch ‘Viper’ Database Server

July 12th, 2006: Its new offering for the database market will change the way data is managed claims IBM.

According to IBM the ‘Viper’ or DB2 9 Data Server will offer significant benefits for customers. Developed with the assistance of India Software Labs (ISL) the ‘Viper’ will eliminate external Extensible Mark-up Language (XML) processes and reduces storage capacity requirements. IBM says that early adopters of this technology have been able to lower their storage costs by up to 80 per cent.

Designed specifically for Service Orientated Architecture (SOA) environments, the ‘Viper’ is designed to allow more efficient operation in real-time, regardless the data format or platform being used. R. Dhamodaran, Country Head, IBM India Software Group, said, “DB2 9 ‘Viper’ is poised to strike and alter the competitive landscape in the database industry. We’re ushering in a new era of data server technology that furthers our investment and initiative aimed at helping clients to grow their businesses by leveraging information on demand”.

The ‘Viper’ will be globally released by IBM on the 28th of July.
