June 2, 2006: IT research firm IDC’s APAC (excluding Japan) semi-annual security software tracker has concluded that Australia is expected to remain the largest market in 2010.
The Asia Pacific market has reported a tremendous growth in information technology market in the last one decade. The establishment of new IT organisations have led to growth in enterprise IT sector too. Interestingly, security software is being seen as a very important enterprise solution for IT organisations.
IDC forecasts claim that the tracked Asia Pacific security software market will rise to US$ 1.7 billion by 2010, representing a CAGR of more than 15%. The security software market is reportedly the largest in Asia Pacific market with a total of US$ 805 million in 2005. This represents a growth of more than 23% year-over-year, according to IDC results.
According to the research, continued growth is expected until 2010 with India, PRC and Malaysia leading the trend. However, Australia is expected to remain the largest market. The research found that the secure content management market was very strong in 2005, achieving a growth of 34% over the previous year. Also, it apparently retains the majority share of the security software market in APAC, accounting for more than 57% of the market. Demand for protection against viruses, spy-ware, spam and other malicious code was said to underpin the growth in this market. Evidently, the security and vulnerability software market also experienced healthy growth in 2005. This market includes software that focus on allowing organisations to determine, interpret and improve their risk posture.
Willie Low, Senior Market Analyst, Asia/Pacific Infrastructure Software Research, IDC Asia/Pacific says that this is the time for the software vendors to capitalise and take advantage of this trend or re-evaluate their value proposition and align themselves accordingly.
