Symantec And Telstra Form New Force In Security
June 6th, 2006: In a world first, Symantec and Kaz, Telstra's ICT and IP services subsidiary, have announced that they are forming a potent new partnership to bring Symantec Operational Services to Australian SMBs.
Kaz and Symantec say that the five-year agreement will help organisations establish IT and regulatory compliance, minimise business impact of information security threats, and reduce overall security risks.
Because the deal will focus on software as a service delivery model, the partnership looks to be in a strong position to woo the higher end of the small to medium business (SMB) market who are more interested in standard security services with fixed service level agreements (SLAs).
Symantec says that through its Global Consulting Services, Kaz will offer consulting, systems integration, project management and managed and hosted security services to managed IT customers.
The partnership claims it will be able to provide Australian organisations with:
- Managed Desktop AntiVirus to manage the risk of viruses and spyware across enterprise environments
- Email Gateway Security to deliver advanced technologies and best practice management for cost-effective email security
- Managed Secure Web Content Filtering to for efficient control of staff access to inappropriate or malicious web content.
“This agreement represents a milestone for the global outsourced services industry, as it is the first of its kind,” says David Sykes, vice president, Australia and New Zealand, Symantec Corporation. “The agreement enables customers to benefit from a resilient infrastructure that is flexible enough to respond to information demands and changing business needs yet robust enough to withstand possible information security threats.”
Kaz designed the security offering, while Symantec provided the components, and if successful the deal could prove to be a future model for delivery of Symantec security services in other countries.
“As Telstra's ICT services arm, Kaz partnered with Symantec because it provides one of the most trusted and complete portfolios of security technologies and expertise available today,” says Mike Foster, CEO of Kaz. “By partnering with the information security market leader, Kaz is able to offer a comprehensive security service which starts at the network and extends all the way to the desktop.”
