Canon's Secure Fax Tool For Business

April 4th, 2006P: Secure Fax seeks to lock the door on what many overlook as prime source of information leaks.

While most organisations are now aware of the potential for digital data to leak into the wrong hands, the fax machine has been overlooked as a conduit for the same journey. Faxes are legal documents and still comprise a major element of docunment management systems. Canon is seeking to address this issue with a new feature integrated into its ImageRunner range of multi-function devices (MFDs).

Secure Fax ties in with Canon's existing 'Secure Login' system and Windows' Active Directory user directory. It enables companies to incorporate centralised faxing against the most up-to-date staff and security-profile lists.

Current implementations of the ImageRunner/Secure Login combo' provides security cleared users - via their building access card or a keyed number - to scan, print and copy documents, with duplicates and logs being forwarded to relevant parties.

Secure Fax uses software rather than any additional fax cards or hardware to achieve similar results. All faxes sent out from the business unit can then by tracked not only by standard date and times, but also traced directly back to the individual who originated them - as long as your security systems are in good order of course.
