Brocade Gets NuView On Tapestry

March 7, 2006: Brocade has given its Tapestry offering a boost with the acquisition of U.S. software developer NuView.

Completed on the 6th of March for US$60 million, the acquisition will give Brocade new opportunities for customers and partners and expand its business outside of its traditional Fibre Channel SAN space.

Brocade says that NuView software such as StorageX will aid in file management over distributed, heterogeneous or multi-vendor server and network attached storage (NAS) environments. It is expected to be integrated Brocade’s Tapestry Wide Area File Services (WAFS) solution.

StorageX uses Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS) and supports both CIFS and NFS protocols. This enables the addition, consolidation, migration and automation of heterogeneous servers and NAS appliances without hindering branch office access to data.

“NuView and Brocade share a common vision for improving and simplifying data management in the enterprise,” says Rahul Mehta, Chief Executive Officer and founder of NuView. “NuView's solutions for file data management are an ideal complement to Brocade's Tapestry family of products.”
