SMC Unveils New VoIP Gear
March 28th, 2006: With the popularity of Voice Over IP (VoIP) growing rapidly in both business and consumer circles, SMC has announced the release of two new VoIP devices to make it even easier to take advantage of the communications technology.
The first is the Wireless Travel Gateway (SMCWTVG), a wireless communications device aimed at the road warrior. Functioning as a wireless broadband router and VoIP gateway, the device can share a single internet connection between a number of users while simultaneously routing voice communications over both the analogue phone system and via VoIP.
To do this, the WTVG just needs to be connected to an analogue telephone and telephone line. Once done, calls can be made over both VoIP and normal analogue lines using the same phone.

Secondly, SMC has also launched its new Wi-Fi Skype phone, the SMCWSKP100. Styled like your typical mobile phone, the WSKP100 comes with embedded Skype software which allows free (Skype to Skype), or low cost calls to be made whenever you’re near a Wi-Fi hotspot. No PC required.

You do of course, need to have a valid Skype account. If so, then calls can be made over both the PSTN and Skype networks. The WSKP100 incorporates Skype features such as call conferencing, voice mail and the SkypeIn/SkypeOut services.
The SMCWSKP100 will be available in June/July for a RRP of $299.
