SNIA End User Council Storage Survey Results

January 17, 2006: In more Survey news, The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) End User Council (EUC) has announced the results of its second EUC Survey with reliability, recovery and business continuity topping the list of issues.

The Survey, titled “Storage Management, Where Are We Now?”, attracted 252 respondents and found that one in four of those surveyed struggled with a lack of integrated or interoperable solutions, while one in six struggled with management of storage assets and infrastructure. Respondents saw “decreased cost of management and maintenance” and “increased multi-vendor interoperability” offering the most help.

“The entire EUC membership, SNUG members, and SNW attendees have been extremely forthcoming in describing the issues that affect their daily IT operations,” says Norman Owens, Storage Architect, Thomson Corporation and Vice Chair of the EUC. “While the 2004 Survey respondents identified cost containment as the most important issue in their organisation, 2005 Survey respondents rated reliability (92%) and recovery or business continuity (85%) above cost containment (80%).”

Owens also noted that compliance has gained importance compared to last year’s survey, but more so in the large and medium business sector than with small business.

The full survey results can be found on SNIA’s website, www.snia.org/euc.
