HP bolsters BladeSystem with new buy

Oct 4, 2005: In more acquisition news, HP have announced that they have signed an agreement to acquire RLX Technologies Inc., provider of blade server management technology.

RLX is known for its Linux-based management software suite RLX Control Tower, something that HP will use to deliver its vision of a unified infrastructure management solution across Linux, Unix and Windows.

"With Linux's expansion into blade server environments, customers want tools that deliver simpler and more robust management," said Rick Becker, vice president and general manager, HP BladeSystem. "Following our recently announced acquisitions of AppIQ and Peregrine Systems, RLX represents another step in HP's expanding enterprise management capabilities to help enterprise and small and medium business customners simplify their IT environments and cut costs."

HP will eventually embed the RLX technology into new product offerings and integrate it with Leading Systems Insight Manager, ProLiant Essentials and OpenView management portfolio.

The sale is expected to be competed within 30 days, upon which RLX will be integrated into HP's Technology Solutions Group.
