Verbatim announces flash mobility solution

Oct 19, 2005: Verbatim have just released a flash storage system that will no doubt please people on the go. Called the Store 'n' Go U3 Smart Drive, this new offering from Verbatim is a packet-of-gum sized 1GB flash drive that functions not only as a storage medium, but also as a computing platform.

Using the U3 smart drive platform, the flash drive is transformed from a storage device into a USB drive that can launch programs, store user details, emails and anything used in day to day computing tasks. This enables users to jump on to any PC and work in a familiar environment without worrying about leaving any personal information behind.

"The vision behind the U3 smart drive is to enable a computing experience that is private, personalized, protected and portable on any computer." said U3 ceo Kate Purmal.

Flash memory's popularity is rapidly increasing, and will no doubt continue its rapid climb as more people become tuned in to the benefits of a mobile workspace.

"Computing mobility has become a priority with business users and consumers," said Alan Kleeman, Verbatim marketing services manager. "the store 'n' Go U3 Smart Drive mobilizes the users personal workspace. They can carry their emails, applications, personal settings, bookmarks and favorites, folders and documents with them wherever they go without always having to carry a laptop, or risk not having a needed application on a borrowed PC."

Mobility of programs and settings is achieved through the use of U3 Launchpad software which is natively supported on Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. In older or unsupported operating systems such as Linux, Unix and Mac OS, the drive can still be used as a normal USB storage device.
