Speed gains bigger than Texas

Oct 24, 2005: Texas Memory Systems and ONStor have announced an industry first 100% solid state file server that boosts performance by removing all possible physical latencies.

Aimed at institutions such as banks, telecoms, governments and the military where access times and overall speed is paramount, solid state servers allows rapid sharing of frequently accessed data and greater stability due to the lack of mechanical parts.

In high-transaction and other demanding environments, the speed benefits gained from solid state memory can be significant. Solid state disks can be for example, used in conjunction with existing systems to purely speed up important programs and databases.

"Our customers deploy Texas Memory Systems' solid state disks strategically alongside other systems to accelerate their critical applications," said Woody Hutsell, executive vice president at Texas Memory Systems. "With ONStor NAS Gateways, these customers can now address their most demanding file services applications with the same 100% solid-state performance."

The file server combines Texas Memory's RamSan line of solid state disks, which have been proven to accelerate enterprise applications like OLTP databases, batch processes, and data warehouses, modeling and video editing. In addition to this, it also includes ONStor's Bobcat NAS Gateway which provides enterprise-class network attached storage, with scalable capacity and performance, integrated virtual servers, storage virtualisation and automated capacity provisioning.
