Sep 02, 2005: Victorian homes, businesses and communities can now to take advantage of intelligence provided online about setting up broadband services that suit every individual person or organisation.

The Broadband Access Office has launched by the Victorian Government to ensure that people in the State are well informed about broadband and the options available on the market.

Marsha Thomson, the Minister for Information and Communication Technology, said that Broadband technology is one of the most exciting and important developments of recent times, providing more choices in the way people live, work and do business.

"The Broadband Access Office is a vital information resource for communities, local councils and others wanting to get broadband services into their areas. It is the A-Z of information on broadband issues - a comprehensive independent resource helping you choose the right broadband service for your needs.

"The site allows you to check broadband availability and demand region by region, and gives guidance on what to do if you can't get broadband yet. It also provides information on how developers can help get broadband in new buildings."

Thomson added that it gives information to businesses that will help them choose the right broadband service to suit their needs as well as series of case studies that illustrate how communities can go about getting broadband in their area.

"Broadband offers enormous opportunities for all Victorians. The Broadband Access Office is another Bracks Government commitment to A Fairer Victoria, aimed at ensuring all Victorians reap the benefits of broadband in their businesses, community groups and homes."

The Australian Telecommunications Users Group (ATUG) has welcomed the Broadband Access Office as a proactive approach to providing up-to-date, relevant and user-friendly information into the market at the local level for investors, businesses and consumers.
