80-20 provides compliance boost for SharePoint

Sep 12, 2005: Electronic documents and emails that are managed through Microsoft SharePoint will now also pass through compliance checks and balances thanks to a new add-on provided by 80-20 Software.

The 80-20 Compliance Server has been added to deal with legislation, such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, E-Sign and HIPAA, which require organisations to keep business records for defined time periods, and make sure that they are available on request to a Government regulator or a Court.

David Gillespie, the chief technology officer of 80-20 Software, said that this product's underlying technology is extraordinarily powerful and is designed as it was for full scale deployments in large enterprises.

"As part of 80-20 Software's patented suite of document lifecycle technologies, the components bundled as part of 80-20 Compliance Server, represent over 50 man years of research and development."

Mark Ross, the CEO of 80-20 Software, added that the company is giving away software to companies that are using SharePoint, that would normally cost tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.

"We expect to recover our investment in Compliance Server through increased market awareness of 80-20 Software and subsequent sales of our Leaders Online solution in which the compliance server is a component."

The product can be deployed using both the free Windows SharePoint Services and Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server.
