NSW Department of Corrective Services turns to TOWER
Fragmented document management and records management systems are set to be united at the NSW Department of Corrective Services to increase access to information for staff across the organisation.
The Department will use TOWER Software's TRIM Context suite, in a contract worth $300,000, bring together large numbers of documents that are often used by only one team with their own document and records management system.
Peter Konstantin, the Department's Director of Information Management, explained how the new system will streamline its processes, improve its services and assist with the NSW State Records Act compliance for this organisation, that has more than 150 locations and employs 6000 staff who work in roles as diverse as clerical staff, correctional officers and psychologists.
"We have and will continue to explore the value of the application especially with respect of its interface with other core business applications. The fill extent of the benefits will emerge as the Department builds a strategic information management framework around TRIM."
He added that the previous systems do not support Corrective Services' desire for workers in different roles to share access to documents. He expects the new system will allow workers to act as a virtual team conducting unified case management of offenders' progress through the correctional system.
"We needed a tool that would take carriage of compliance through usability. Once our staff press 'Save As' TRIM appears. That's exactly the ease of use we wanted. Each operational unit will appoint an 'Information Representative' who will work with us to create the applications they need in TRIM. We are also looking at using TRIM Context to drive reporting dashboards and workflow applications."
Konstantin is confident that the software will serve the organisation well for years to come.
