Jul 08, 2005: Getty Images has launched a new service for storing and sourcing images to make sure it is fully in the picture of the digital asset management market.

The new service, Getty Images Media Manager, is aimed at marketing professionals looking for way to improve brand consistency.

The web-based service will provide users with a centralised library of their digital media files in a secure, searchable password-protected environment, taking advantage of the same expertise and technology that powers gettimages.com, which supports over 8 million visits and nearly two-and-a-half-billion thumbnails each month.

Jonathan Klein, co-founder and CEO of Getty Images, said that in over ten years, the success of our business has centred on the creation, management and licensing of digital imagery to help customers work better and smarter.

"Getty Images Media Manager is a logical extension of that success. It gives customers greater access to our expertise, which is what they've been asking for, and represent a solid opportunity for our business growth as many companies have begun to formalise a digital asset management strategy."

Manish Mallick, the program manager of asset management and delivery at General Motors, added that the service has already been implemented at his organisation, and has been very useful so far.

"Converting General Motors' 18,000 + business users on to the Getty Images Media Manager service has been a successful transition. Getty Images Media Manager simplifies the distribution of marketing materials across geographically dispersed teams and we've already seen strong results in both brand control and accountability.

"As our users are located in different times zones, the on-demand model has been vital to our success, offering up-to-the-minute information, 24/7. The service really delivers."

Symantec has also used the service to power its Symantec Digital Library, and has found the system to be very successful too.

Getty Images Media Manager is available in the WorkGroup Edition, for small groups, and the Enterprise Edition, for companies with large populations.
