Network complexities causing big problems

Apr 11, 2005: Small and medium sized businesses are currently suffering just as much as large enterprises from complex, multiple networks to the extent where they are now turning to primary vendor suites to consolidate these disparate systems.

A study by Frost & Sullivan has discovered that small and medium businesses in the Asia Pacific are looking to primary vendors, such as Cisco, to deliver advanced networking technology with expert local support.

The study involved 100 SMBs from Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, India and Singapore.

Manoj Menon, the partner of Frost & Sullivan, said: "Network complexity is no longer an issue for just the large enterprises, but also a growing concern for small and medium businesses.

"SMBs are today forging ahead in the adoption of newer networking technologies, having realised the business benefits behind new generation networks that offer converged data, voice and multimedia."

According to the survey, customers are looking for ways in which they can integrate voice, data and video over a single device with self-defending networks, such as embedded security applications.

Cisco believes that the benefits of embedding and integrating security, voice and video services inside the router allows customers to gain modularity and adaptability, and the survey highlights the importance of network technologies in increasing organisations efficiency.
