ABC trials podcasting programmes over Internet

Apr 22, 2005: ABC Radio National is about to embark on new way of broadcasting, which allows user to access its valuable digital assets via an mp3 player when it is most convenient to them.

This podcasting trial, which involves delivering audio files of radio programmes to listeners via the Internet to their computer, will allow users to gain access to audio highlights or full programmes from eight of ABC Radio National's sixty programmes.

This will include programmes about documentaries, investigative journalism, popular culture and arts, for example.

ABC's head of national talk radio, Mark Collier, said: "Radio listeners and Internet users will hear great radio when and how they want it through this exciting new delivery platform.

"Unlike any other Australian radio station, ABC Radio National has an unparalleled range of quality programmes to offer the mp3 generation.

"They're hungry to supplement their music mp3s with entertaining alternatives - we want to encourage them in a trial of this whole new set of listening options."
