IBM backs up power of DB2

Mar 10, 2005: New software has been launched by IBM that will allow organisations to automatically backup data from a DB2 database by taking commands from preset policies.

It is designed to help medium sized business and SMBs that do not have the time to backup their data.

In addition, IBM has launched the release of IBM DB2 CommonStore 8.3, for archive and retention management of emails, attachments messaging system content.

It also manages, retains and disposes of messaging system content to comply with regulatory, legal and corporate policy requirements.

Single instance archiving makes sure that only one copy of a document is kept in the archive, despite the same document being saved many times by different users.

Brett MacIntyre, the vice president of IBM content management, said that with this announcement, IBM is allowing customers to control all types of data with simplified and unified management of both structured and unstructured content.

"IBM is enabling the power of content management software to be seamlessly applied across the entire IT environment and linked to common end-user applications to enrich business transactions."

In the future, IBM is looking to offer automated backup services also for Microsoft Exchange files, Oracle and SQL files too.
