e-business on rapid rise with Aussie retailers

Mar 14, 2005: A study released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics has revealed that the use of e-business tools by retailers is on the increase in a number of Australian businesses to help increase their competitiveness.

Scott Rylands, the general manager of Quatro Four Retail, says that the increase in the use of technology is being driven by the need of retailers to protect their profit margins and fight off competition from large-scale supermarkets and chain stores.

Rylands said: "With large supermarket chains now trying to muscle there way into the convenience marketplace many retailers are looking to technology to secure long-tern viability of their business."

Quatro Four Retail provides tools retailers to trade over the Internet from anywhere at anytime.

Rylands adds: "It is anticipated that as more retailers become aware of the benefits of technology that many more will come to embrace it and use services such as Quatro to fight off competition."

The figures provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics reveal that the proportion of businesses with Internet access has risen more than double since June 1998.

Computer usage has also almost doubled too since this time, and web presence has shot up nearly four times what it was with retailers in 1998.
