Plasmon Virtualises Archives

May 21, 2008: Archiving solution specialist Plasmon has announced new plans to bring virtualisation to archive management and help organisations better manage exploding levels of data they are forced to retain.

Plasmon says that organisations are continuing to experience incredible growth in data storage requirements while simultaneously being put under pressure by new regulations for data retention, e-discovery and corporate compliance.

It says that by virtualising the archive layer, IT managers will be able to get more out of archive applications and storage technologies over the information lifecycle without attracting the cost and risk associated with future data migrations.

“Plasmon will deliver solutions that enable archives to become independent of the underlying storage devices and applications to help customers simplify the long term retention and disposition of data,” said Steven Murphy, Chief Executive Officer, Plasmon.

“By virtualising the archive layer, we are providing customers with archive choices that allow them to choose the right architecture for their environment – options from best-in-class archive technologies integrated into one solution for the first time.”
