Falcon swoops in to quicken backups

Feb 17, 2005: RAID Inc. has released Falcon II as the latest addition to its series of SATA 2 storage systems to increase the performance of disk-to-disk backup, video on demand, CCTV, streaming editing and server based applications.

RAID claims that the Falcon II is the fastest and highest performing line of SATA-2 based storage solutions in the industry and boast that it is designed to support both DAS and SAN configurations, as well as being interoperable with all standard SCSI and FC host interfaces.

It has an intelligent drive-handling feature, which enables it to retrieve data from damaged sectors, whilst handling low quality drives in both degraded mode and during the rebuild process.

Greg Morris, the CEO of RAID Inc., talked about Falcon II, which the company believes is ideal for a large set of applications that previously required more expensive Fibre-Channel or SCSI disk technologies.

"The Falcon II addresses the requirement extremely high-performance and affordable storage. This introduction allows us to further penetrate more markets by providing a solution that is backed by our un-paralleled service and support offerings.

"It is essentially a solution that provides our customers Tier 1 storage performance at Tier 2 price points."

The Falcon II achieves 400mbs/sec in sequential reads and over 380mbs/sec in sequential writes. It also supports hot-swap disk drives, hot-swap fans and hot-swap power modules for ease of component replacement without downtime.
