HP hires headhunters to find new CEO

Hewlett-Packard has turned to Russell Reynolds Associates, based in New York, to help the company with its search for a new chief executive officer, following the recent departure of Carly Fiorina.

Now HP has chosen the firm that should head the hunt for this highly demanding role, top executives from some of the biggest companies in the world will now be contacted.

Patricia C. Dunn, the non-executive chairman of the board of HP, said: "We are pleased to have Andrea, Charles and the Russell Reynolds team in place to assist us in identifying and attracting the best candidate for the position of HP Chief Executive Officer.

"As we expect this search to be managed with the highest level of confidentiality, we will not comment further until we are ready to announce our new CEO."

Some of the top candidates who are rumoured to be in the running for the job include Kevin Rollins, Sean Maloney and John Joyce.

Kevin Rollins, is currently Dell's CEO, known for turning the company into the world's no.1 computer manufacturer.

Sean Maloney, the executive vice president and general manager of mobility group, Intel Corporation, has been at Intel since 1982. He is known as one of Intel's rising stars, and is already thought of as the likely successor to Intel's present CEO, Paul Otellini.

John Joyce, the head of IBM's global services division, is another potential candidate because he is working in an area which HP would like to excel in. HP might think there is no better way to take on IBM than to take one of their key staff.

Whoever is eventually chosen to take the hot seat at the top of CEO, they might be wise to make sure that their vision fits in comfortably with the boards' strategy, since this proved to be the undoing of Fiorina.
