IBM Launches New Enterprise Consolidation Program

May 26, 2008: IBM, Devon IT and CentriServ have banded together to launch a new server and desktop enterprise consolidation assessment program (eCon), designed specifically for large enterprises interested in moving into blade and virtualisation technology.

Devon IT and CentriServ say that during initial pilot programs they found that among potential and current customers, most enterprises are unknowingly using only about seven percent of their server processing capacity and four percent of their desktop power.

The two claim that companies with as few as 12 servers and 50 end users have found that performance and utilisation can suffer if hardware and software aren’t optimally allocated.

“Virtualisation allows enterprises to utilise their servers and desktops much more efficiently,” says Anthony Falsone, president of CentriServ. “eCon helps companies understand how blade servers, virtualisation, thin clients, and other components of alternative desktop computing can benefit their IT environments from a number of angles.”

Falson adds that CentriServ’s expertise, coupled with that of IBM and Devon IT, will enable companies to get a detailed analysis of a their infrastructure using proven methodologies from IBM, Citrix, and VMware. Following this, firms can deploy far more efficient virtual servers and thin client terminals, cut their power consumption and make better overall use of hardware investments.
