NetApp protects data corruption for Oracle

Network Appliance is set to unveil the latest version of SnapValidator to proactively check and intercept potential data corruption and loss in Oracle database environments.

This software is designed especially to be useful in financial services organisations including major banks and brokerages, to provide peace of mind over accounts payable, accounts receivable and Electronic Funds Transfers being accurate.

It aims to eliminate problems, which include unplanned application errors that could overwrite data blocks onto a disk, and multiple layers of software and hardware creating added complexity and increasing the probability of corruption before data is written to NetApp unified storage systems.

In addition, it will attempt to eliminate accidental human errors resulting in potentially copying data onto inappropriate storage resources and intricate data backup and restore processes making data susceptible to corruption or loss.

Patrick Rogers, the vice president of marketing at Network Appliance, said: "SnapValidator was created as part of the recently enhanced NetApp Data ONTAP 7G operating system. Customers who are responsible for ensuring that their Oracle corporate data is unaltered and 100 percent accurate now have added assurance that their data has been written to disk unchanged.

"NetApp is providing reliable data validity, increased reliability, and peace-of-mind so that these customers can remain focused on the use of the data itself rather than on accurate movement of the data to their NetApp SAN, NAS or IP SAN."

Network Appliance claims that it is the first company to support Oracle's Hardware-Assisted Resilient Data (HARD) Initiative in modular storage arrays. The HARD Initiative is a programme designed to prevent data corruptions before they happen.

In addition Network Appliance and Oracle have agreed to work jointly towards opening the doors of a joint storage solution centre.

It will be designed to help customers deploy Oracle solutions to test it out, and also to draw on valuable technical expertise and knowledge. The centre will be based in Beijing.
