Seagate redefining storage on the hoof

Oct 27, 2004: Hard disk drive vendor Seagate Technology, which has suffered disappointing results of late, will be hoping the introduction of its new 5GB pocket hard drive and 100GB portable external hard drive will help drive revenues on an upward trajectory.

Resembling the holder commonly used for portable music player earphones, the Seagate USB 2.0 Pocket Hard Drive's round shell fits into the user's palm, at just under three inches in diameter.

The drive is designed to make data and digital content storage, backup and transfer more portable, more reliable and easier. It can be used for transporting or quickly backing up a large amount of data, pictures, audio or video files.

The 100GB portable drive is targeted towards users that need easy access to large data, video, digital music, presentations and multimedia files on-the-go and on-the-desktop.

Containing a 5,400-rpm hard drive inside, the drive delivers up to 100Gb of storage in a footprint just bigger than an index card and weighs les than a pound. This USB bus-powered external drive also offers high shock resistance and low power consumption to conserve laptop battery life.

It also includes an 8MB cache plus CMS BounceBack Express backup software for data protection and increased data security.
