SAN simplified for smaller businesses

Oct 28th, 2004: HP has released new SANs and NAS solutions as part of Microsoft's Simple SAN program, which aims to make it easier for fast growing small and medium size businesses to adopt bigger storage networking systems.

The Simple SAN program intends to make the SAN deployments less complex and risky and enables customers with a low level of technical expertise to deploy an entire SAN in just minutes.

John McArthur, the group vice president and general manager at IDC, said: "The market opportunity for network storage solutions with small businesses will continue to grow as lower prices and easier-to-implement solutions attract new customers.

"Products such as HP's new entry-level network storage solutions should be compelling offerings for SMB customers and channel partners serving the lower end of the market."

The first Simple SAN bundle is built around the HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) 1000 Small Business SAN Kit. This is an entry-level solution for first-time SAN customers.

Each kit includes the HP StorageWorks MSA1000, a 2GB Fibre Channel disk array, with two Qlogic SANblade host bus adapters and an eight-port Fibre Channel Qlogic SANbox Switch.

In addition, HP has also unveiled new NAS systems under the HP ProLiant Storage Servers brand.
