Citrix and NetApp Announce Virtualisation Partnership

April 1, 2008: When companies the size of NetApp and Citrix team up, it’s a safe bet that something big is in the works, which is exactly what’s happened as the duo announce a marriage between the worlds of server and storage virtualisation.

Citrix and NetApp have announced a partnership aimed a delivering a complete server virtualisation solution. The process will involve Citrix’ XenServer adapter being optimised with NetApp’s storage arrays, with the project currently in beta.

“Integrating our products with XenServer provides customers with the unique ability to leverage the virtualization awareness inherent in NetApp arrays,” said Jay Kidd, CMO, NetApp. “By bringing the worlds of server and storage virtualization together, we offer operational breakthroughs that help customers improve their IT infrastructure and processes.”

The beta product has already been met with positive feedback, Jim Corrigan, Founger of Manage Operations expresses his excitement about a “storage-optimised virtualisation solution that will enable our customers to leverage familiar software to add server virtualization capabilities and manage it all through one central management console.”

The Cirtix XenServer Adapter for NetApp Data ONTAP is included with XenServer 4.1 and is available now for no additional charges.
