HP releases rags to riches storage

Sep 08, 2004: HP has announced the release of a new storage system that can expand in tune with the successes of a small company, allowing it to contain data as business develops from modest beginnings to the dizzy heights of enterprise standard achievements.

This new powerful high-end disk storage system has been designed to match business needs and has the ability to host up to 32 petabytes of non-mission critical data on external storage devices.

The HP StorageWorks XP 12000 is based on the latest technology from Hitachi Ltd, and offers greater investment protection benefits and allows for data centre consolidation.

As well as providing management simplicity of a single virtualised storage pool, the XP 12000 is offers single system management, remote copying and cross-continental disaster recovery.

Andrew Manners, the director of network storage solutions for HP, Australia said: "The XP 12000 provides an ideal combination of mission-critical information availability and lower cost tiered storage from a single management view.

"Our new solution will significantly benefit customers who require storage solutions that will grow with their business needs."

One of the features includes the ability to be scaled from nine disk drives and one terabyte of raw capacity to enterprise-class data centre configurations of up to 1,152 drives with a capacity of 165 TB.

The HP Cluster XP software allows users to integrate XP remote mirroring functionality with open-system high availability server clustering solutions. This provides rapid and automatic fall-over and fail-back between sites for management lowers the costs and complexities of enabling disaster recovery solutions.
