Verari Announce Blade-Based NAS and iSCSI Storage Appliance

April 8, 2008: Announced at Storage Networking World in Orlando, Verari’s new StorageServer combines NAS and iSCSI into a blade based appliance.

Verari are hailing it as the industry’s first blade-based high capacity storage appliance. The SB5165XL StorageServer has appliance-like manageability with the features of NAS and iSCSI SAN storage.

"With the SB5165XL StorageServer NAS/iSCSI appliance, Verari's Storage Group is demonstrating its commitment to continuous innovation and providing customers with an alternative to existing NAS solutions," said Deni Connor, principal analyst, Storage Strategies NOW.

The system has been purpose-built for the Verari Systems BladeRack 2 XL platform and FOREST conainerised data center solution. The SB5165XL appliance consists of an SB1165 StorageServer blade and up to two disk blades, which provide up to 24 terabytes of capacity in a RAID configuration.

Dan Gatti, senior vice president at Verari explains the SB5165XL StorageServer appliance is the first of several new products to come from the recently formed Storage Group.

"We have been encouraged by the rapid adoption of our DataServer technology into the commercial enterprise grid and virtualization environments. Those early adopter customers provided Verari Systems with valuable feedback: bring the iSCSI and NAS appliance features found in the SB5165XL StorageServer to market while retaining the highest density storage footprint and energy efficiency in the industry,” said Gatti.
