Veritas joins Linux push

Veritas has become a member of the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) to help spread awareness about the benefits of Linux and also aid in developing its capabilities for dealing with a wide range of enterprise problems.

Veritas has been in the process of expanding its Linux products for quite some time in the areas of: data protection, high availability, storage management, server automation and application performance management software.

Mark Bregman, the executive vice president for product operations at Veritas is thrilled about joining OSDL and participating in its initiatives to promote Linux as an enterprise-class operating system.

"We view Linux as a strategic platform with immense potential in the enterprise. Veritas is committed to being an active participant of OSDL and offering our expertise in software to enable utility computing across Linux data centre environments."

Stuart Cohen, the CEO of OSDL added: "Linux use in enterprise data centres is growing quickly and we're pleased to have a leading ISV like Veritas join and participate in our working groups to help us accelerate the adoption of Linux in the United States and around the world."

The Linux operating system kernel is the result of the efforts of its creator, Linus Torvalds, and thousands of software developers from around the world.
