Cornice fights back against Seagate

Cornice has launched a countersuit to Seagate technologies' accusations that its 1-inch Storage Element hard drives break six of Seagate's patents over hard-disk technologies.

Cornice is seeking a ruling in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware, that Seagate's patents are invalid, unenforceable and not infringed by Cornice products.

In addition, Cornice is accusing Seagate's lawsuit of being baseless, constituting unfair competition and interference, claiming it is entitled to damages.

The lawsuit by Seagate aims to prevent Cornice from selling the Storage Element drives in the United States and it seeks to gain monetary damages too.

Cornice's 1 GB, 1.5 GB and 2 GB hard-disk drives can be found in a many portable electronics devices, including MP 3 players from Sony, which uses Aiwa brand players.

Cornice also faces another lawsuit from Western Digital Corp.. Western Digital Corp. has accused Cornice of infringing on seven of its patents involving hard-disk technology.

It is also seeking to win damages from the company too, as well as a ruling to prevent Cornice from corrupting its patents.
