IBM sets sights on Candle acquisition
IBM is preparing to buy its partner Candle Corporation, as part of it plans to improve the performance of mainframe applications, databases and application infrastructure software for its customers.
IBM intends to combine Candle's technology with its own for managing distributed systems from databases to servers, so it can provide an enhanced set of software solutions.
Candle's tools will be integrated with IBM's DB2 database, Tivoli management suite and the Java-based WebSphere line of infrastructure software.
Steve Mills, senior vice president and group executive of IBM software group said. "Candle brings award-winning infrastructure management expertise and technology to the IBM software portfolio. Together we will provide customers with powerful capabilities for managing end-to-end infrastructure, processes and applications, which are key requirements for the on demand operating environment."
Aubrey Chernick, chairman and chief executive officer of Candle Corporation added."Candle has been an IBM business partner since our founding in 1976, and we've always taken synergistic paths with our technologies and strategies. Combining the two companies will offer our customers a more comprehensive set of solutions, which will enable IT to deliver greater business value."
In additions, Candle can also manage IBM's zSeries, Linux, Unix and Windows platforms.
IBM believes the advantages of integrating its software with Candle's will help companies keep track of the status of all systems and the business process running them, provide the ability for these processes to be prioritised so that IT resources are allocated to the most important business needs.
Candle is the latest of a number of acquisitions made by IBM, which also include Trigo technologies inc., last month. Further acquisitions are expected as IBM looks forward to fulfilling its $10 billion broad On-Demand vision.
