Software set to form BakBone of IBM systems

BakBone Software has announced that its NetVault data protection software will be supported across all IBM eServer pSeries systems running 64-bit Linux on IBM's Power Architecture processors. This announcement follows IBM's recently announced support for BakBone's Linux Advantage program, a joint marketing and development initiative.

BakBone's support for the IBM eServer pSeries platform helps ensure data protection solutions for enterprise applications running on Linux. As more users consolidate Linux and Open Source applications, NetVault allows customers to migrate to Linux without sacrificing their data protection strategies.

Adrian Jones, senior vice president, Worldwide Alliances and OEMs at BakBone Software, commented: "Our collaboration with IBM and its pSeries platform extends BakBone's support for Linux in the data centre. Both companies realise that customers are demanding solutions that deliver the lowest total cost of ownership coupled with superior ease of deployment."

BakBone utilises Linux as the base development platform for NetVault, which ensures the entire NetVault product stack runs on Linux.

Through BakBone's data protection solution for storage networks, customers are able to back up and restore greater amounts of data with less disruption and increase the level of protection for critical information.
