Quantum ships more products through same channel

Quantum has expanded its channel to include the selling of stand alone tape drives as well as automation libraries, under its own brand name. This worldwide integrated channel programme is called the Quantum Alliance.

Quantum has traditionally sold its DLT and SDLT tape drives under the name of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) re-sellers, but has sold their automation libraries under their own name. However, they found that solution providers were making constant noises about preferring to sell products from one source.

These solution providers will now be able to go straight to Quantum to acquire solutions from low end-users, all the way up to enterprise users, without the difficulty of dealing with separate organisations. This should increase their revenue too.

Julie Spencer, PR & Marketing Communications Manager at Quantum for the Asia Pacificic explained the benefits for channel partners and the end-users: "These partners will have more opportunity now to penetrate the market and increase their revenue because they will have better access to our full breadth of branded tape drives, media, tape automation and disk-based products for data backup, archiving and recovery.

"End-users will benefit because they will have access to our 24 hours support service. If there is a problem, they can come through direct to Quantum via the telephone for any kind of support. We also have replacement parts available in all of our offices in Australia, so we can provide quick fixes to hardware problems.

Our re-sellers have given us very positive feedback about the integration of our products through one channel. Customers have wanted it for a long time because our brand is very well recognised and respected."

Quantum's has already begun shipping three new products through its channel partners - the SDLT 600 tape drive in North America and both the "MAKO" PX720 enterprise-class tape library and DX100 disk-based backup system worldwide. Their full line of branded tape drives, including the SDLT 600 will soon be shipped into the Asia Pacific region too.

Scott Robinson, chief technology officer for Datalink, added praise to the announcement: "In today's competitive environment, I not only need a full product line such as Quantum offers, I need a vendor that is easy to do business with and understands what I need to do to fulfil my customers needs. The Quantum Alliance programme addresses these issues and helps sets the stage for success."
