Queensland politicians quizzed on ICT policies

Voters in Queensland will be able to easily identify where the major political parties stand on the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry ahead of the election, thanks to the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA).

The AIIA has written to all the major parties taking part in the upcoming Queensland State Election, requesting a brief statement outlining policies and achievements in the ICT industry, as well as a few more specific questions. Among the questions posed by the AIIA were: What specific measures would your party take to facilitate the growth of ICT SMEs; what your policy was on the outsourcing of Government IT contracts to offshore developers, and what are your policies relating to the attraction of international investment into the Queensland ICT market.

The parties have been given until this Thursday (January 29) to respond, after which time their responses will be posted to the Queensland election site on the AIIA portal (www.aiia.com.au).

"State Government policies are a key determinant in the location of companies and provision of services by ICT businesses in Australia," said AIIA Chief Executive Officer, Rob Durie.

"It is important for our members and the wider ICT industry to be fully informed as to the policies which may affect our industry, future employment and the prospects for ICT businesses to grow and prosper in Queensland."

The parties have also been invited to provide details of any new polices announced during the course of the election campaign, which will subsequently be added to the information on the AIIA website.
