Microsoft to Acquire Kidaro

March 14, 2008: In an attempt to expand its foray into desktop virtualisation, Microsoft has announced that it is intending to acquire enterprise desktop virtualisation specialist Kidaro.

Microsoft plans to combine Kidaro’s virtualisation technology with its suite of desktop management tools, dryly called Microsoft Desktop Optimisation Pack for Software Assurance.

The combination will enable it to offer better optimisation tools for desktop infrastructure via new management capabilities for Virtual PCs, the streamlining deployments and easier application compatibility issues.

“The acquisition of Kidaro is an important component of our virtualisation strategy, and it delivers a powerful new tool to help enterprise customers optimise their desktops,” says Shanen Boettcher, general manager of Windows product management at Microsoft.

“Virtual PCs can help businesses address a number of challenges around application compatibility, mobility and business continuity. Kidaro’s seamless user interface and management capabilities allow enterprises to more easily use and manage Virtual PCs.”
