Swift ascent for Barkla at Unisys

IT services and solutions provider Unisys has named current Australia and New Zealand MD Andrew Barkla as the new vice president and general manager, Unisys Asia Pacific.

Barkla, who only joined Unisys in January 2003 as MD, Australia and New Zealand, has introduced a number of initiatives during his brief tenure, having introduced the company's global programme and launched an accelerated leadership development programme for high-potential employees within Australia and New Zealand.

"We started our transition to a services led organisation six years ago, and that evolution continues," said Barkla. "Our skills continue to be deepened by both new appointments especially from the ranks of the consultancy firms, and by the development of our current employees. Today's customer wants its suppliers to commit to delivering business outcomes and we need the right people and skills to make this happen. Our new management disciplines, our new appointments and our employee development programmes will ensure that we continue to deliver these outcomes."

Barkla said that a number of good wins in the Asia Pacific region – including BARA in Australia, the New Zealand Inland Revenue Department, and Maybank in Malaysia – served to demonstrate that Unisys has the skills required to deliver clear and measurable business outcomes.

"We've maintained the growth we achieved last year. Our aim is to continue to increase the momentum throughout Asia Pacific for the remainder of 2003 and beyond."
