Merant target Tier 2 marketplace

Merant says it is looking to meet the rigorous demands of the Tier 2 marketplace with the introduction of Merant Collage 4.0, the latest incarnation of the company's Web content management solution.

David Balazsy, managing director of Merant, said the market "is asking for features and functionalities of Tier 1 solutions for a Tier 2 price."

He added: "Although we can match high end solutions on functionality and features, Collage is significantly less expensive, very flexible in terms of look and feel, processes and integration, easy to use, and it takes no more than two weeks to fully implement."

The system is open standards-based and offers enhanced support for Oracle9i Database, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, Linux servers and Macintosh clients. It includes automated task management and workflow control, site import capabilities, flexible templating and master page design, content editing, integrations with common desktop applications such as Microsoft Office and Macromedia Dreamweaver, version management, and granular security and permissions down to the asset level.

Honeywell and the State Library of Victoria are among the early adopters of the out-of-the-box technology, which is priced at around A$100,000.
