Teradata Ships Data Warehousing Suite

Teradata Warehouse 7.0 is on its way to Australia. The latest enhanced data warehouse comprises of new hardware and software.

Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation, says it has made 150 enhancements to Warehouse 7.0’s business intelligence (BI) capabilities, enabling businesses to extend analysis and decision-making to all functions.

Julian Beavis, vice president of Teradata Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia said: “With the combination of the new hardware and software, Teradata Warehouse 7.0 can provide performance improvements of up to 110 per cent over the prior release.” The key components of Teradata Warehouse 7.0 include the Teradata Database V2R5.0, Teradata Tools and Utilities 7.0, and the NCR 5350 Server. Teradata applications, partner applications and the new Teradata Professional Services have also been pinned on to the product.

Accompanying the Teradata Warehouse 7.0 suite are two new consulting services from Teradata Professional Services - Application Performance Management and Workload Performance Management. Both services work in tandem with customers’ IT and business teams to forecast and implement data warehousing performance gains using Teradata Warehouse 7.0, Teradata claims. In addition, they provide a transfer of knowledge that enables businesses to receive more value from their hardware, software and personnel. The Application Performance Management service uses the enhancements in Teradata Warehouse 7.0 that assist customers to manage their expansion costs and critical applications. The Workload Management service uses Teradata features to manage mixed workloads and prioritise queries based on business requirements so that complex analysis doesn’t hinder time-sensitive operational queries. Teradata said “processing-intensive data-mining queries should not interfere with tactical decisions required to drive day-to-day operations.”

According to Mr Beavis, customers that adopted the beta-tested Teradata Warehouse 7.0, have found they can more efficiently manage large numbers of users with varied queries while providing each user with the optimal performance required to address specific business needs.

Teradata partnered with other BI software vendors to test and certify that their software is compatible with Teradata Warehouse 7.0, including Brio Software, Hummingbird, Hyperion and others.
