For the fourth straight year, EMC Corporation has been placed as the leading worldwide provider of storage management software.

According to a new Gartner Dataquest report, EMC led the $4.7 billion storage management software market in 2002 with 25.6% revenue share, seven percentage points greater than the nearest competitor.

EMC also came first in Storage Resource Management (SRM) software, the fastest-growing portion of the total storage management software market in 2002.

EMC grew SRM software sales in 2002 to lead with 46.2% revenue share. SRM software, which is composed of automation and reporting tools, is a sub-segment within the Enterprise Storage Resource Management (ESRM) segment. ESRM includes products managing various storage resources including direct-attached and fabric-attached storage. The EMC ControlCenter family of open management software resides within this segment.

According to Gartner Dataquest, EMC also led the $1.9 billion Storage Infrastructure segment, with 36.1% revenue share in 2002. Storage Infrastructure software includes replication, path and volume management products such as EMC SRDF, TimeFinder and PowerPath software.
