P4 compatible hard drives
Maxtor's serial ATA hard drives are compatible with the Intel 875P chipset for the Pentium 4 processor.
Testing has just been completed at both Intel and Maxtor's labs and the hard drives will now be offered for OEM in PC and RAID arrays.
"Both companies have been active in the serial ATA (SATA) working group and have worked together closely on compatibility testing," said Knut Grimsrud the chairman of the Serial ATA Working Group and a principal engineer at Intel.
As a result the Maxtor SATA drives can now be plugged directly into the Intel D875PBZ desktop board with no need for an adapter card or the old parallel ribbon cable. Maxtor claim this will improve the airflow and cooling of systems.
